A side channel blower (also known as a regenerative or ring blower) is a tough, oil-free air pump. It moves a large volume of air at a steady pressure or suction, runs relatively quietly, and has just one moving part, so it needs very little maintenance and tends to last for years.
Its 1.1 kW motor puts it in the middle of the range, moving up to 87 cubic metres of air per hour. It can blow air at up to 380 mbar of pressure or pull a vacuum of up to 300 mbar. As a rule of thumb, the bigger these numbers, the more push or pull the blower can deliver. It runs from an ordinary single-phase electrical supply, so it is straightforward to install without special wiring.
As a single-stage blower, it favours a high, steady volume of airflow, which suits jobs where you need to move a lot of air continuously.
Typically used for: aerating fish farms, ponds and wastewater treatment tanks; pneumatic conveying of powders and granules along pipework; supplying air to packaging and blown-film lines.
